Born into a musical family in Hamburg, cellist Laura Moinian has garnered attention through her successes in national and international competitions, as well as through the release of two CDs.

Alongside pianist and Lars Vogt’s assistant, Jamie Bergin, Laura presented her debut album “Inside Out,” featuring favorite works from Schubert to Popper, during a concert tour in June 2017. The album was produced by sound engineer Holger Schlegel from Dabringhaus und Grimm, Detmold.

On March 1, 2019, her second CD, “Cello Shadows,” was released, featuring Laura as a soloist with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and compositions by Jörg Lemberg. The album is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.

Highlights of recent years include tours and performances at the Trans-Siberian Art Festival, the Dresden Music Festival, the Kronberg Festival, and the “Podium der Jungen,” where she performed in a live broadcast on NDR Kultur with cellist Jan Vogler as her chamber music partner. Further chamber music engagements have taken her to the Elbphilharmonie, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Novosibirsk Philharmonic, the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, and Wigmore Hall in London.

In 2019, Laura and her pianist Alexander Vorontsov won the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation scholarship. As a duo, they were selected for the “Best of NRW 2020/21” and performed a tour of over 15 concerts.

At the “Ton und Erklärung” competition in Munich, Laura Moinian won the third prize and the special prize from the Kronberg Academy. In the final round, she performed Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D major with the Munich Radio Orchestra in a live broadcast on Bavarian Radio.

Laura received prices like the Possehl Competition sponsorship award and the Kiwanis Prize in Germany and the second prize at “International String Concert Competition” in San Marino.

Laura was a successful participant in the “TONALi” competition (Germany’s highest-endowed cultural prize) and received a scholarship. She was also accepted into the “TONALiSTEN” agency, which cooperates with the Harrison Parrott agency, until 2023. The agency arranges both solo and chamber music concerts for her worldwide.

Laura won the second prize at the “Beethoven Competition” in London with pianist Camilla Li in the Duo category.

Laura made her debut with Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 at a sold-out Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. Additionally, she was invited to perform as a soloist at the “Fränkische Musiktage”. Through the Cultural Circle of German Business, she performed at the Prinzregententheater in Munich as a cello duo with ARD Prize winner Friedrich Thiele. The concert was broadcast live by Bavarian Radio.

From September 2019 to 2021, Laura was an academician with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich.

As an orchestra musician, she regularly plays projects with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Utopia Orchestra, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

At the age of 12, Laura Moinian was accepted into the prestigious Julius Stern Institute for highly gifted young students at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she studied for the next four years under Prof. Matias Oliveira de Pinto. As a member of the 12 Cellists of the Julius Stern Institute, she performed across Europe.

A highlight of this period was an invitation to perform as a 12-year-old soloist with the ensemble resonanz at the Rolf Liebermann Studio in Hamburg. This concert was broadcast live on NDR.

Laura’s additional solo debuts include performing Dmitri Kabalevsky’s Cello Concerto under the baton of Matthias Foremny at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin. Her accomplishments also include winning first prize at the national “Jugend musiziert” competition in the Cello Solo category in 2010 and receiving the “Verfemte Musik” Prize in Rostock.

A “Foundation” scholarship enabled her to begin her Bachelor’s studies with Melissa Phelps at the Royal College of Music in London.
In 2013, she transferred to study under Prof. Leonid Gorokhov at the Hanover University of Music, where she successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree.
Laura completed her Master’s degree in early 2019 with the highest distinction (1.0) under Prof. Troels Svane at the Lübeck Academy of Music.

In 2017, Laura began a Master’s program in Chamber Music with her piano trio under Professors Oliver Wille and Markus Becker at the Hanover University of Music.

Laura has been a scholarship recipient of the “Live Music Now” foundation.
